De-Indexing from Google Search Console

De-indexing refers to the process when a request has been submitted to Google to remove pages from their search results. There are a few situations where it may be necessary to remove indexed pages through Google Search Console.

  • When a Client cancels.
  • When Keywords are changed.
  • When Locations are changed.
  • When anything significant to the sitemap changes.
  • Keyword stuffing.
  • Duplicate content.
  • When pages conflict with Google’s quality guidelines.
  • If it is necessary to remove pages from appearing in SERP reports.

The following is a step-by-step guide to removing pages from Google’s index.

After logging into Google Search Console and choosing the correct property, on the left-hand menu click on “removals”.

After doing so, the below window will open. “Temporarily Remove URL” will already be selected. Click the “Remove all URLs with this prefix”. In the empty field, include the URL prefix for the local custom domain (ie. https://local.masonsbabershop.com). This is a temporary action lasting only six months. This gives us enough time to remove the positive effect of the pages before they are appropriately removed from the system. Click next. After a final warning, click “Submit Request”. This will alert Google to remove any landing page matching with the URL prefix.
